As our softball season comes to a close, on behalf of Richmond Hill Minor Softball Association, we would like to sincerely thank you for all your support and commitment in making time so that your children could attend the weekly practices and games. We understand it’s not easy juggling work and family commitments and we greatly appreciate your efforts in finding a happy balance.

Again, our focus this season was on promoting sportsmanship, friendship as well as developing the players’ skills, knowledge of the game, its rules, and most importantly, having fun in a safe and positive environment. We hope that we have accomplished this and that you and your children look forward to returning next season to Richmond Hill Rebels Softball!

Sincerely,
RHMSA

The U14 Rebels Select Team, AKA The White Diamonds had diamond fever this season! It was a rollercoaster ride of emotion, summer of fun with lots of heart and many new skills put into play. The girls played with passion, drive and representative Richmond Hill with the utmost honor. Although the team did not come home with the win at Provincials where 28 teams competed from all over the province, they had a fantastic year learning, making new friends and playing lots of Softball!

Special thanks to a wonderful young lady who volunteered her time and shared her expertise to help the team learn and grow. Thank you Kyla for a special year!

The Green Clover U14 House League team, coached by Steve and Tonia Sarkissian, had a fantastic year! They held 2nd place throughout the season within the York North Loop competing with teams from Aurora, Stouffville and Newmarket. They also captured the Golden Glove Trophy at the Richmond Hill Championship U14 House League game. With new players who have never played ball to experienced veterans, the girls played with the best intention in mind that was to have fun and to play competitively. They even wrapped up the year by pulled off an amazing triple play in their last game of the season! Fantastic job ladies!

The Richmond Hill Rebels U14 Rep softball team climbed their way to the podium at the PWSA Provincial Championships, qualifying the team for the Eastern Canadian Championships in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Representing Ontario at the Easterns, this team came out firing, mercying three teams and only dropping one game to PEI who they faced in the semi-finals the following day. With a changed in strategy and along with impressive pitching, strong bats and solid defence, the Rebels came out on top against PEI, winning 14-9.

In the championship game with Head Coach James Bland at the helm, Richmond Hill faced the Kitchener Klassics. The Klassics got off to an early lead with a score of 5-2 and the Rebels continued to trail by 3 runs through five innings. In the 6th inning, with a pitching change, the Rebels held their opponents, rallied at bat and scored 3 runs to tie the game.

In the top of the 7th, the Rebels shut down their opponents again and the home team had a chance to win the game in regulation innings. With one out and a runner on 2nd base, the clean up batter hit a rocket walk-off single to centre field, driving in the winning run. The Rebels came from behind to win the championship because they never stopped believing that they could.

This was a wonderful opportunity and experience for the team to be exposed to competitive softball from other provinces. The memories created will last a lifetime and will fuel the girls to continue playing softball for years to come. Congratulations to the Province of Ontario, the Town of Richmond Hill and the Richmond Hill Rebels, the 2018 Eastern Canadian Champions!
