The 2017 U14 Select season was an interesting one with the majority of the team comprising of last year’s U12 Select players who moved up. With two senior U14 veterans, Kyla Ciomyk and Caitlyn Wunderlich, the team set off for their journey.

The team participated in five tournaments this season: Brampton, Brantford, Etobicoke, Richmond Hill and the OSSTA Championships, held in Brantford. The first tournament was an indicator of the competition the team would face all season.

At the OSSTA Championships on August 26/27, 18 teams participated. Of the four teams that Richmond Hill faced, three were new opponents. RH faced Exeter in the final game of the round robin. The RH girls played their best defensive game all season against a powerful and strong Exeter team. Exeter’s pitching was top notch and created difficulties for our batters, however the Rebel girls were on their game. With a low final score of 5-2 and a win by Whitby, the Rebels advanced to the elimination round.

On Sunday morning, knockout day for the tournament, the Rebels played Etobicoke. Unfortunately, some misplays in the first and second inning yielded a lead too great to mount a comeback and the Richmond Hill Rebels fell to a good pitching Etobicoke team. Overall, Richmond Hill finished in 10th place out of 18.

Team roster (in no particular order): Serena, Ruby, Sophie, Melissa, Kyla, Rosanne, Vanessa, Abigayle, Caitlyn, Evette and Ava.

The Richmond Hill Rebels U12 Select team, a.k.a. the White Diamonds, have come a long way from having no wins under their belt last year, to a fantastic season. This year, the girls participated in three tournaments: Oakville, placing 3rd out of 8 teams, and winning their first bronze medal. The Etobicoke tournament marked many ‘firsts’ for White Diamonds including a 14-hour day with 9.5 hours of actual play, playing multiple innings in the rain and playing under lights, their first 7-inning game and a 9-inning game going into a international tie breaker! This landed them 4th place out of 13 teams. The White Diamond ended their year at the OSSTA Championships in 9th place out of 18 teams. MVP honours were awarded to Emily F, Gabriella, Isabel S, Erica, Kelsey, Emily S, Isabel A.

The Team has made leaps and bounds by never giving up and always putting their best foot forward. They have made all parents and coaches very proud of them. We can’t wait for next year. Congratulations to the U12 Select White Diamonds!

The U10 team capped off the season with an exciting Kids vs. Parents game! Both teams came suited up and prepared to face off. There was impressive pitching by both sides and lots of hitting! With aggressive base running and awesome coaching led by Coach Chris who even umpired as well, the U10 girls persevered in the end with a win over the parents! Both teams displayed good sportsmanship after by hugging it out and posing for a fantastic group photo. Congratulations to the parents, Coach Chris and the kids for a game well played!
